Here’s a Canadian pressing of Dan Hill’s 1981 album “Partial Surrender” on Epic Records, capturing the Toronto singer-songwriter at a fascinating crossroads in his career. Following the massive international success of “Sometimes When We Touch” from his previous album, Hill found himself navigating the tricky waters of maintaining artistic integrity while satisfying commercial expectations. This album represents his attempt to evolve beyond the soft rock ballad formula that made him famous, incorporating more sophisticated production techniques and a broader emotional palette while still delivering the intimate, confessional songwriting that made him a household name.
